Choosing a Team

Luke 5:1-11

This test showcases how God advances redemption through ordinary people, not cultural elites, as Jesus calls working fishermen into His service. It traces a journey from skepticism to faith: after fruitless labor, the disciples obey Jesus’ command, haul in a miraculous catch, and are confronted by His authority and their own need for repentance. Their vocation is reoriented to “catching men,” a Gospel mission that rescues people from sin—“catch and release” in the sense of bringing others to the shore of salvation through the good news. The passage presses believers to live as full-time missionaries in every sphere of life, committing to prayer, speaking the simple message that Christ comes to mend what is broken, and entrusting the outcomes to God for the transformation of their communities.
