Luke 10:25–37
Genuine compassion begins by truly seeing another person’s need, but it does not stop with sympathy—it moves us toward action that may cost our time, resources, comfort, or plans. Jesus reframes the lawyer’s question from “Who is my neighbor?” to “Will you be a neighbor?” challenging us to extend mercy beyond boundaries of race, politics, class, and religion, especially toward people we might overlook or avoid. Ultimately, Jesus is our perfect neighbor: He crossed the greatest distance to rescue us, bore our sin, and paid the debt we could never pay. Having received His mercy, we are called to let Him transform our hearts and then “go and do likewise.”
